Known for its pretty beaches and scenic views, La Jolla is great for photo shoots. There are many beaches to choose from, here my top 3 choices.
Just north of La Jolla, before getting into the restaurant scene, is Scripps Pier. It’s one of my favorite beaches to shoot because of the variety of scenery. The pier is a nice backdrop for classic San Diego photos. Scripps Beach is wide, which is perfect if you have little ones. A photo under the pier is a must, with the waves crashing in the background. Walking north of the pier, you are met with a whole different backdrop- the cliffs. If you’re lucky and there is low tide, which is usually in the mornings, but happens occasionally during sunset, there are some great tidepools to shoot around. The rock formations are unique to san diego and make for great photos, whether it’s an engagement shoot or family shoot.
South of La Jolla, is Windansea beach, which is also a popular break among surfers. The beach is very picturesque with sandstone points sticking out, which make for nice photo backdrops. Walking down south, the tidepools get smaller and there are patches of sand for a nice beachy look. SOme of my favorite photos were taken running around the rocks and cliffs.
In the heart of La Jolla, with great views on the cliffs. There is a stairway that goes down to the beach, which is a great photo op. There are many different angles you can capture here. This spot would be recommended during low tide, so you have space to walk on the beach and can explore the cliffs, which provide awesome views of the San Diego coastline.
The best time to shoot would be early morning, 7am-8am; when the sun isn’t too bright and golder hou, which is about an hour before sunset. Also, be careful walking on the cliffs, which can be slippery, especially if there is green seagrass on them.
