Tropical Acre Baja Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Wedding

April 17, 2019

This shoot was featured on Green Wedding Shoes!

In the outskirts of Cabo San Lucas, lies the hidden, tropical oasis of Acre Baja. A 25 acre sanctuary of greenery, Acre is the perfect getaway for a destination wedding. As a photographer, this location is a dream to photograph in because it offers so many options for photos. Besides the lush, tropical greenery there are backdrops for days, including mountains as a backdrop and a sweet hammock.

I had the chance to travel here recently, and was amazed by the place. I’ve been wanting to see it for myself, after seeing it trending on social media. It doesn’t disappoint- it’s not just palms and treehouses, it’s more! So many areas to photograph and see. It’s perfect for a destination wedding in Mexico, as a wedding photographer always looking for interesting and unique venues to shoot at, Acre has so much to offer.

When I first got to Acre Baja, I felt like I stepped into a tropical oasis. Birds chirping, palm foliage everywhere. I was here for a styled shoot to get the know the venue, and it was so fun working with Cally & Michael. Details were amazing, and the sparkly wedding gown was to die for. We started with prep in the treehouse, followed by walking around the property, and some photos by the hammock. More portraits and detail photos were takes closer to sunset and the light was perfection. Read on to learn more about Acre Baja and its magic.

One of Acre Baja’s signature features are their treehouses. The area is a boutique hotel, and sleeping in the canopy definitely makes you feel that way. Each treehouse has its own pathway, which offers privacy. The walls are constructed from branches from local trees, and the decor is crafter by Mexican artisans, modern and eco-friendly. There are birds chirping, and perhaps a occasional rooster in the morning, but this is definitely jungle vibes.

The area offers many diverse settings for celebrations. The main one is the mango orchard that features hand painted tiles and twinkle lights; which are perfect for ambiance when the sun is setting, and create a fun dancing atmosphere. An open-air rooftop is above the bar and creates a intimate setting, ideal for cocktail hour for example. Can’t forget the fabulous Acre restaurant surrounded by palms. Throughout the property, you will find massive agave plants as well as the turquoise infinity pool surrounded by cacti. Each event is custom, whether its a intimate elopement or a big wedding celebration.

The Acre Restaurant, it is located in the heart of the resort. The ingredients don’t travel far- they are either from Acre’s local farm on the property, or from neighboring suppliers, which makes the restaurant authentic and what shapes the menu. Acre’s pride is their food and cocktails, it’s a destination in Cabo even if you’re not a guest at the resort.  The Chefs have worked in top restaurants in New York and Los Angeles, and their urban experience with local Baja ingredients, makes for a great combination for fodo. The atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxed and refined, a wonderful dining experience.

Let’s not forget about Acre animals- the local family includes peacocks, roosters, dwarf goats and the insta-famous donkey named Burrito. A fun photo is having Burrito part of bridal party or group portraits. The animals occasionally roam the property, so don’t be surprised if you find peacocks by the pool as you’re sunbathing.

So, when’s the best time to plan your Los Cabos wedding? November- March is best, as the weather isn’t humid like summer, but slightly cooler. Why plan a destination wedding? It’s a unique experience for you and your guests, especially when everyone is flying in from around the country. Couples have planned wedding weekends, to spend with their guests, for example a welcome dinner or post wedding brunch. The weekend will be memorable for you and your guests!
