A drive south from San Diego, just under 2 hours, lies the community of Las Gaviotas in Baja, Mexico. It’s perfect for a beach destination mexico wedding, or a weekend trip. We spent 3 days here last year, and it was perfect. It’s easy to get to and you don’t have to fly.
The community is gated, which is safe, and features a pool on the property as well as a clubhouse where weddings can be held, as well as around the pool. The views are epic, as well as the surf. It’s known as a getaway for San Diego local surfers. Las Gaviotas is very scenic, featuring a cute sidewalk paths that lead through the whole community. There is also a beach, with a volleyball net, which can be a fun group activity.
Las Gaviotas is filled with rentals, small or large, that are idea for booking with a group. These can be found on their website, or on Airbnb or VRBO. The property is filled with charm, and many picturesque locations, as well as beach backdrops. Don’t forget the mexican tiles and bougainvillea trees, which make for a perfect mexican vibe.
We hung around the pool and beach, as well as the local restaurants close by. We found a authentic mexican restaurant, El Portal, right outside of the community, and at there every day. It was so good and cheap! Another yummy eatery across from Las Gaviotas, is Bleu Galley, a french inspired bistro. Could even be ideal, for a small group brunch post wedding I’m sure.
All in all, Las Gaviotas was a great trip, and we are excited to go back. It’s fun, either as a couple or group, and there are many things to do. If you love the beach scene, Mexican food, and stunning views, visit Las Gaviotas, or plan your wedding there.
